In 1897 about 25,000 children from the Auckland Education District signed a congratulatory address to Queen Victoria on the occasion of her Diamond Jubilee, celebrating 60 years as Queen. This address was presented to Her Majesty Queen Victoria by the scholars of the public schools in the Auckland Education District, 1897. 247 children from Avondale School signed the address.
